Governance Workshops: Developing your Boards Impact Monitoring and Reporting

Overview of Learning

Boards should evaluate how its monitoring and decision-making have improved outcomes for pupils and secured the ongoing financial stability of the school. The end of an academic year is a good time to reflect upon and assess the impact of the board’s work. It is good practice to report upon impact and share this with key stakeholders.

This workshop provides guidance to boards on how to review the board’s contribution to school improvement and how to report this to key stakeholders. Delegates also have the opportunity to share ideas and different approaches to assessing impact with other governance colleagues. A proforma/ template is provided to delegates during the session to assist with the preparation of an impact statement/ report. By the end of this session, you will have:

  • examined good practice in relation to assessing governing board impact and reporting upon on this to key stakeholders.
  • Explored, through discussion, the approaches to assessing and reporting upon impact undertaken by other boards.

As this is a practical workshop, delegates will be asked to bring to the session copies of their board’s governance working arrangements, along with any work/ development plans for the board. Delegates may also find it useful to bring the agendas of recent governance meetings along with any reports of monitoring visits to school. These can be referred to and reflected upon during the workshop. Delegates will receive an email containing guidance and instructions ahead of the session.
